David's History |
David is from Canada, and has an MSc from the University of Guelph, in Computing and Information Science (specializing in Human Computer Interaction). He also has a BSc from Brock University with a major in Computer Science and minors in Music Composition and Geography.
David started his career at IBM, working in IBM Canada's software product development lab in Toronto. Shortly after coming to IBM, David, in his spare time started teaching courses in internet technologies and helped set up the first web site for IBM's software divisions. (www.software.ibm.com). A few years later he was appointed as the first webmaster for IBM software group. In late 1998, he was recruited by Rory Read to move to the U.S. and take a corporate role helping to define the architecture for IBM's global web hosting infrastructure, and managing its roll-out.. In late 1999, David was asked to take the position of corporate webmaster for IBM (replacing IBM's original webmaster, Ed Costello). In that role David managed a team that consolidated IBM's global presence for 60 countries (previously hosted in various environments around the world, into one extremely high availability hosting environment, with a common design and new dynamic features. Afterward David played a leadership role in bring agile development practices in the for of eXtreme Programming to the ibm.com organization. David later moved onto leading an innovation initiative within our Sales and Distribution unit. From there he went on to move into a innovation role at corporate wide level. David has received various awards for his technical and innovative contributions within IBM. He was awarded a Lifetime contribution award from the World Organization of Webmasters. He has also been awarded an Alumni of Distiction Award from Brock University.
